Study Sheet for Third Grade End of Year Assessment

Prayers

Your child should know:

–The Sign of the Cross, Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Act of Contrition, and should be aware of the Nicene Creed (Creed said at Mass)

–Prayer is talking and listening to God

Sacraments

Your child should know:

–A sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace.

Sacraments of Initiation – Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation

Sacraments of Healing – Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick

Sacraments of Service – Matrimony and Holy Orders

Mass

Your child should know:

–The Mass is divided into two parts, 1) Liturgy of the Word and 2) Liturgy of the Eucharist.

–We hear about the words and actions of Jesus in the Gospel reading.

–The homily is after the Gospel.  This is when a Priest or Deacon talks about the Gospel and how we can live it out today.

–The priest says the Eucharistic Prayer when the bread and wine become the body and blood of Jesus Christ.

Marks of the Church

Your child should know:

–Marks of the Church are the four characteristics that describe the Church: The church is one, holy, catholic and apostolic.

One:  all members of the Church are united by baptism.

Holy:  through Baptism we receive a share in God’s life

catholic: the Church is open to all people

Apostolic:  all members of the Church share in the mission Jesus gave the Apostles.

Your child should know:

Our Pope is Pope Francis

Our Pope is the visible head of the Roman Catholic Church on earth.

Our Bishop is Bishop Donald O’Connell

Our Bishop is the Head of the Diocese which is a group of parishes

Our Parish is St. Joan of Arc

Our Pastor is Msgr. Rich LaVerghetta

Your child should know:

Advent:  A time when we prepare for the coming of Jesus at Christmas

Blessed Trinity: the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit

Christians:    All people who are baptized and follow Christ.

Grace:  a gift from God that helps us to lead a good life.

Lent:  The season when we prepare to celebrate Easter.

Mass:  The greatest prayer of the Church

Parish:  A Community of believers who worship together

Our Father

            Our Father who art in heaven, hallowed be thy name.  Thy kingdom come thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.  Give us this day our daily bread and forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us.  And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil.  Amen!

Hail Mary

Hail Mary full of grace, the Lord is with you.  Blessed are you among women and blessed is the fruit of thy womb Jesus.  Holy Mary, mother of God, pray for us sinners now and at the hour of our death.  Amen!

Sign of the Cross

In the name of the Father, and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.  Amen!

Glory Be

Glory be to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit.  As it was in the beginning is now and every shall be world without end.  Amen.
