Prayers:

Your Child should know:

  • Our Father, Hail Mary, Glory Be, Meal Time Prayer, Act of Contrition, Sign of the Cross.
  • Prayer is talking and listening to God

5 types of Prayer are:

  1. Adoration –  when we tell God that we love Him
  2. Petition –          when we ask God to help us
  3. Intercession –  when we ask God to help someone else
  4. Thanksgiving – when we thank God for the gifts he has given us.
  5. Praise –        when we tell God that he is great and wonderful.

Sacraments:

Your child should know:

  • A sacrament is an outward sign instituted by Christ to give grace.
  • The Seven Sacraments are: Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, Confirmation, Matrimony, Holy Orders, Anointing of the Sick
  • Sacraments of Initiation are: Baptism, Eucharist and Confirmation
  • Sacraments of Healing are: Reconciliation and Anointing of the Sick
  • Sacraments of Service are: Matrimony and Holy Orders

Your child should know:

  1. I am the Lord your God, you shall not have strange gods before me.

Liturgical Year

Your child should know:

The Liturgical year begins on the 1st Sunday of Advent

Advent is when we prepare to celebrate Christ’s coming at Christmas

Lent is when we prepare to celebrate Jesus rising from the dead on Easter

Lent begins on Ash Wednesday and end with the celebration of the Lord’s Supper on Holy Thursday.

Good Friday is the day that Jesus was crucified

Holy Thursday, Good Friday and Holy Saturday are the days we call the Easter Triduum.

Easter is Jesus’ resurrection (rose from the dead)
